Epic Games-the creators of the popular shooter Fortnite: Battle Royale-announced the opening of a new Studio in Cologne, Germany. The latest Studio, which fall under the auspices of Epic, with the original name of Epic Games Cologne will be chaired by the former founders of Factor 5, the creators of the Turrican franchise and Star Wars: Rogue Squadron .
Prior to joining the Epic team Factor 5, including Director of online technologies, Epic Games, Julian Eggebrecht and Director of the Cologne Studio, Achim Moller, working on the delivery media with Netflix, Amazon and Hulu, as well as acted as technology partners like Nintendo and Sony. It doesn’t look like Epic Games Cologne will stray too far from that focus, as Epic says the new Studio will “serve as part of the company’s growing focus on new forms of interactive media and streaming technology.”
“At the heart of Epic’s success are highly skilled and passionate people,” Eggebrecht says in a company press release. “Germany is a country at the forefront of technology and we look forward to expanding our local presence as we fill newly created vacancies and hire exceptional talent.”
Eggebrecht and Moller joined Epic earlier this year and previously led Factor 5 until the Studio closed in 2009 . It’s interesting to imagine a future in which a new Rogue Squadron game could exist, but it doesn’t look like Epic Games Cologne will be developing its own games. Maybe we’ll see some multimedia content on Fortnite or a streaming platform to compete with Twitch and Mixer. Epic Games already uses steam In the Epic Games Store, so anything is possible, but at the moment it’s just speculation.
